Structural Engineering

Our structural engineering solutions are tailored to the needs of the client and project. We consider buildability and practicality to be fundamental to the delivery of  a safe cost effective solution. Our experience in the largest to the smallest of construction projects allows us to bring a wide range of  solutions.

Based in Somerset we understand the challenges of building economically on the Somerset Levels and other low lying land.

What we do  and who we work for

Builders, Self – Builders,  Developers & Private Clients

We work in all  materials including timber, steel and concrete. Designs for common elements  are practical to build. Working with past developers such as Bridgwater’s Magnus Homes cost effective designs were developed and have been continually refined.

Foundation and Substructure Design

The Somerset Levels and its lias stone hills present many challenges for professional and self builders alike. Working with geotechnical engineers we  have a wide range of established solutions for local projects in the South West of England.

Typically we provide complete working designs including calculations, drawing, reinforcement drawings and schedules.

  • Piles foundations & Ground Beams
  • Raft Foundations
  • Mass Concrete

Superstructure Calculations and Details

The design of  buildings for domestic, residential  and commercial use including apartment blocks and institutional residential  buildings. We have considerable experience in German, Austrian and European manufactured OSM housing particularly with  Hansa Haus and ELK Fertighaus GmbH.  We understand what foundations are required for this type of housing.

All forms of structural engineering including

  • Load bearing masonry
  • Reinforced masonry
  • Reinforced concrete including reinforcement drawings and bar bending schedules.
  • Precast concrete
  • Steel frames
  • Steel Beams
  • Timber roofs

with a wide experience and knowledge of all building forms we can advise on the conversion and alteration of most types of buildings including barns, industrial  buildings and other agricultural buildings that might be considered for conversion to a house or other use.

Retaining Walls

Retaining walls provide both contractor and house builder with considerable problems as they are normally constructed from reinforced concrete and require skills to build often beyond the capabilities  of most small builders. Highway standard retaining walls many metres high can be built using reinforced masonry for the wall. Simple to build and with little or no formwork they can be built by most people with some experience of  building.

Conventional retaining walls  can be designed to any height required.

Our solutions include

  • Reinforced Masonry
  • Reinforced Concrete

  • Mass Concrete
  • Reinforced Earth.
